Me with Esther and her little sister in Gatamaiyu, Kenya.
November is over. WHERE the heck did the time go?!
This week, next year, we’ll be traveling from Europe to South Africa.
And 7 months from right now, our squad will be departing for a year
of crazy ministry with a bunch of 20 somethings, as we live with
orphans and befriend prostitutes (with some waterfalls and
mountains in between, i’m sure.) Every day it varies. Some days I can
hardly concentrate on schoolwork because I just want to get on that
plane. Other days, I am terrified and tell God that this is just too much
to ask. He always wins though.
So what has God been teaching me this month about all of this?
I heard a song on the radio that really spoke to me the other morning,
during one of my sunrise commutes into Philly. The song’s called You
Can Have Me, and it goes like this:
If I saw You on the street
And You said come and follow Me
But I had to give up everything
All I once held dear and all of my dreams
Would I love You enough to let go?
Or would my love run dry
When You asked for my life?
The song goes on to ask the question, “when did love become
unmoving? when did love become unconsuming?”
Father of Love, You can have me.
(If You’re all You claim to be, then I’m not losing anything.)
I WILL LOVE YOU ENOUGH TO LET GO.
Really, when DID love become unmoving? When you love
someone, it moves you to action. So here I go.
He called me.
I fought Him.
He called me.
I yelled at Him.
I called Him unfair.
But He called me.
And His spirit moved me.
To answer.
And to love Him.
And to let go.
My Father, my Love, You can have me.
….
OTHER UPDATES FOR NOVEMBER:
What I’ve been up to this month.
Thought. Perhaps obvious, but at the same time highly overlooked…
This is not the only face of Hunger:
This is also the face of Hunger:
SOOOOOOOOOO…
I finished my project at my internship at The Salvation
Army! We were able to help 1,067 people get the means
to serve Thanksgiving dinner in their own homes. They
were hooked up with some awesome services from The
Salvation Army as well, and we hope to continue a
relationship with the families. So cool! Fighting hunger
and oppression is not something just for Africa. But for
here and now in Philly and for the person down the street
as well. Praise God 🙂
